Monday Demo February 4th 9 N. Main Street Pittsford

Cut Corporate Welfare and Tax Loopholes, Not Social Security and Medicare!

What:    Rally to Protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid!

Where:  Bank of America, 9 N. Main Street (corner of Main Street and Monroe Avenue), Pittsford

When:    Monday, February 4, 2013, 12 -1 PM

Why:  The deficit hawks in Congress are still at it, repeatedly screaming that the US is turning into “Greece.” Don’t believe it! Economists are now arguing that the 25% reduction in the deficit since 2010 has actually happened too fast, and has resulted in a slowdown of economic growth during the past 3 months.[1] Still, congressional leaders are already looking toward the next budget crisis, deep automatic across-the-board spending cuts (“sequestration”) that look increasingly likely to hit all federal agencies on March 1, including Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid funding, as well as food stamps, housing vouchers, Pell grants, and other programs that assist low-income people.[2]

Ordinary Americans have helped limit the damage so far, but we must not stop raising our voices.

The Band of Rebels is returning Monday, February 4, to Bank of America. One of the too-big-to-fail banks that brought down our economy and still enjoys protection from its criminal acts, B of A receives billions in corporate welfare and pays no taxes because of tax loopholes, subsidies and off-shoring their assets and profits. Although we must cut the deficit eventually for the long term health of our country, a healthy economy with low unemployment will do more to reduce the deficit than draconian cuts to programs for those who can least afford it. In what universe is it fair to imperil the lives and futures of disabled children and veterans, elderly people, millions of low-wage workers and those who can’t afford even basic medical care? It isn’t. A copy of the Band of Rebels plan, which cuts corporate subsidies and eliminates tax loopholes, can be found at
