Metro Rochester Unemployment Rate

In December 2012 the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the Rochester Metropolitan Area had 41,800 people unemployed. That is 8.0% of the labor force. This undercounts unemployment by ignoring discouraged workers who have given up looking for work and by ignoring part-time workers who really want full time jobs. It over counts unemployment by missing informal work that is “off the books.” It is probable that 12% or more experience unemployment.
